Experience
I completed my Masters in Clinical Psychology at Flinders University in Adelaide in 2010. Since this time, I have worked with adults (18+) in both private and community mental health settings in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne.
More specifically, I have worked in acute care mental health teams, working with people experiencing mental health crises, as well as in a longer-term capacity with individuals needing support for complex social and mental health needs (such as psychosis, Bipolar Affective Disorder, complex PTSD, personality disorders, complex anxiety conditions, complex depression, deliberate self harm and suicidality amongst other things).
Since moving to Melbourne in 2017 I have worked exclusively providing evidence-based therapy in private practice with a focus on improving the mental health and life satisfaction of those I work with.
Over the years, I have developed an interest in working with individuals who are suffering from anxiety, including chronic worry (Generalised Anxiety Disorder), panic attacks, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, social anxiety, clinical perfectionism, specific phobias and anxiety following traumatic events/PTSD. I also enjoy working with those seeking support for insomnia and psychological support for Bipolar Affective Disorder.
I can help you with the following, amongst other things:
Anxiety disorders (chronic worry/ generalised anxiety, social anxiety, clinical perfectionism, panic attacks, phobias)
Mood disturbance including depression, emotional burnout, stress and anger management
Life transition
Bipolar Affective Disorder
Insomnia
Obsessive disorders including OCD and body dysmorphia
Eating Disorders (excluding anorexia nervosa)
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder/ vicarious traumatisation
Therapeutic Approach
I think it important to work collaboratively and compassionately with people to understand their needs for attending therapy. As such, I utilise a non-judgemental, open, enthusiastic and supportive approach to work with clients in the pursuit of their goals.
I tend to take a more strengths-based, skills-focused approach to helping clients understand current difficulties and how to overcome the barriers they are experiencing in their lives.
To do this I use a variety of evidence based therapies depending on an individual’s needs. For the most part, I draw on techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) and Schema Therapy.
